The Levelution of Granado Espada saw numerous schools sending teams of IT-savvy and academically-bright students to battle it at this national online game competition graced by Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of National Development and MP for Sembawang GRC. This first-of-a-kind competition, jointly organized by Temasek Polytechnic’s Informatics & IT School and IAHGames, is possibly the first such competition in Asia to emphasize pro-social behaviour.
Temasek Informatics and IT School hosted the national competition on 7th April 2008 for 100 secondary school students, some of whom came from as far as Jurong. Distinguished guests from the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), National Institute of Education (NIE) and IAHGames served as our esteemed judges.

This first-of-a-kind competition is aimed at encouraging and fostering pro-social behavior among online gamers. Teams were tested on their ability to work together and to increase their characters’ levels in the fastest, most efficient way while displaying good sportsmanship within an intensive one-hour game-play. This meant that they had to cooperate, interact and work well as a team, under intense online game conditions. Competitors received bonus points when they displayed these pro-social qualities which were observed and recorded not just by the esteemed judges but also by the national broadcasting media crew present. Common encouraging words from the competitive gamers included “come on, let’s go, go, go!”, “no prob, get up and go!”, “good job!” etc. The finalists were very well matched and the pro-social behaviour component was a tie-breaker resulting in Ngee Ann Secondary School narrowly winning the Levelution of Granado Espada (2008) championship. They won for their school a Chimei 22” LCD panel plus a Granado Espada Limited Signature Edition Bellem Box set personally signed by Mr Hakkyu Kim, the legendary producer of the award-winning online game, Granado Espada.
The prizes were sponsored by IAHGames and its appointed distributor in Singapore, Epicsoft.
Junyuan Secondary School came in an extremely close second while Changkat Changi Secondary School was right at their heels, at third place. All finalists won prized Granado Espada Box sets, trophies and certificates. All participating schools received a framed certificate and all participating school teams brought home a goodie bag of Granado Espada premiums and memories of intense online game-play with a difference… a focus on pro-social behaviour.
